If asked for a list of the most unappealing places to travel, I think that Iraq would certainly be up there in the top 5 for most people. Within the war-torn hell that Iraq is however, there is a region in the north that is administered by the Kurds which has experienced peace and relative prosperity since the American invasion. I am visiting Iraqi Kurdistan for two weeks to get a feel for what it is like to be an oasis of calm within what many would believe is hell on earth.
